INFRASET RAILWAY PRODUCTS WINS BEST PROJECTS AWARD | Click HERE to go back to awards

Infraset’s Railway Products’ pioneering work in the field of concrete sleeper technology gained further recognition in November last year when it won
the Holcim South Africa Innovation Award for Sustainable Construction, one of four awards in Construction World’s Best Projects Awards programme. Infraset took the honours for its Universal/Infrabolt concrete sleeper project which had also won a Fulton Award for the company earlier in the year.

Best Project Awards are hosted annually by Construction World, a leading technical journal which covers civil engineering and general construction practice both locally and internationally.

The Universal/Infrabolt concrete sleeper project has provided Spoornet with an alternative to expensive and scarce imported timber sleepers. The rail giant is now able to renew some 15 000 ageing timber-based turnout sets in situ. Developed in close collaboration with Spoornet’s Track Technology Centre and Metrorail, the new sleeper is simple and easy to install, primarily due to an innovative rail-to-sleeper fastening system, Infrabolt, which was specifically designed for the Universal Sleeper system.
