KOBUS BURGER WINS CONCRETE SOCIETY’S INLAND ACHIEVER OF THE YEAR AWARD | Click HERE to go back to awards
Congratulations to Kobus Burger on winning the Concrete Society’s Inland Achiever of the Year Award. The award is presented biennially provided there is a recipient worthy of the award which is not always the case. Kobus was nominated for the award by Hanlie Turner, a member of the Concrete Society and a committee member of the inland branch.
On presenting the award to Kobus, inland branch chairman of the Concrete Society, John Sheath, said that Kobus’ achievements in innovative concrete technology were world class and that he deserved recognition for this.
The winner is chosen on the basis of his/her contribution in promoting the use of concrete and standards of excellence in its use.
Candidates are assessed on the following aspects:
• Usefulness
• Practicality
• Originality
• Aesthetics
• Cost-effectiveness
• Technical innovation
The award was presented for Kobus’ leading role in the introduction of several new and innovative precast concrete products for South Africa’s rail network. These include; seven new products for the Guatrain Rapid Rail Link; the Universal/Infrabolt concrete sleeper system; a Transition Beam sleeper system for the Saldanha/Sishen ore line; and a new concrete mast and foundation system, which is currently being deployed on the Saldanha/Sishen line.
During the awards ceremony, which took place at a Concrete Society breakfast at the Protea Hotel in Midrand on November 6, Kobus was at pains to point out that he had received the award on behalf the Infraset team and associate companies, all of whom played a part in developing the new products and systems.
